Eunice Gonçalves Duarte is an artist, researcher and creative visual storyteller.
Writing would first win the race to her heart by the hand of James Joyce. She wanted to be in his shoes, so after winning one of the most prestigious grants in Portugal for creative writing, she moved to Dublin to study at UCD. Although she graduated in Contemporary Theatre, she understood that that was not the way to her art practice.
After travelling around Europe, Eunice settled in Lisbon to research the interaction of technology with performance practice and started building machines for image projection in real time.
Over the years, Eunice has sharpened her craft, creating narratives that seamlessly blend a variety of media. From the enchanting allure of magic lanterns to the dynamic power of cinema, the evocative beauty of photography, and the intimate expressiveness of drawing, she skillfully weaves these elements into a dynamic interplay with her body, creating captivating and thought-provoking art.
Eunice’s work has received support from numerous institutions, a testament to its broad appeal. The Arts Council, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Lisbon City Council, and ArteemRede are just a few of the organizations that have funded her art. Her work has been showcased at prestigious venues across Europe, the USA, and México, further validating her artistic contributions.
