SEEING
An Artist-Led Laboratory of Light and Perception
2-hour experiential workshop
Seeing is a practical laboratory exploring the dynamic relationship between light and darkness. Through the direct manipulation of these two variables, participants observe how images emerge and how perception is activated through the body.
Using simple manual experiments with light, shadow and optical phenomena, the workshop approaches both the foundations of image-making and the physical experience of seeing. Before an image is consciously recognised, interpreted or named, perception is already taking place: the body responds to intensity, contrast, movement, colour and spatial change.
By slowing down this process, Seeing invites participants to experience perception as an active and embodied practice — one that can open pathways towards imagination, creativity and storytelling.

From Artistic Research to Shared Experience
The workshop grows out of Eunice Gonçalves Duarte‘s artistic research into light, image formation, perception and the physical experience of seeing. Seeing translates this research into a participatory situation in which observation, experimentation and discussion become tools for investigating perception.
